Pennsylvania?s Department of Labor Industry-operated State Workers? Insurance Fund (SWIF) said today that it is consolidating the SWIF claims division and field operations division into the claims services division.

Officials said employers will see no disruption in services.

?This reorganization enables a more streamlined operation of SWIF, benefitting the more than 24,000 employers served by eliminating redundancies and making administrative processes more efficient,? said Elizabeth Crum, deputy secretary for compensation and insurance.

The consolidation will result in 28 staff furloughs across seven offices. Furloughed workers are located in the Lackawanna, Erie, Dauphin and Northumberland county SWIF offices. Officials said affected employees are aware of the consolidation and its effects. ?The state will work with displaced workers to expedite their return to the workforce,? Crum added.

Created by law in 1915, the State Workers? Insurance Fund provides an assured source of workers? compensation insurance for Pennsylvania businesses and their employees.

Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno died Sunday, mere months after being fired following a child sex abuse scandal among his program’s coaching staff. ABC News reports Paterno died due to complications of lung cancer at the age of 85.

Here’s a look at Paterno’s coaching career, by the numbers.

46: Years Paterno was the head coach at Penn State. Whereas many programs switch coaches often, Paterno’s legacy of consistent winning kept his job security intact. Paterno was 8-1 in 2011 before he was fired.

5: Losing seasons Penn State had in Paterno’s tenure. Four of those seasons came since 2000. During his first year in 1966 Paterno’s team went 5-5. Every season from that point to 1987 had a nonlosing record.

5: Undefeated seasons Penn State had under Paterno. His first undefeated season was in 1968, his third year on the job. Penn State went 11-0 and won the Orange Bowl. A year later, he did the same thing.

37: Bowl games in which Paterno coached in his 46 years. From the 1971 season to the 1983 season, Penn State appeared in 13 straight bowl games, winning nine.

24: Bowl game victories for Paterno. The victory total and appearances in bowl games are NCAA records for coaching.

409: Wins for Paterno. He only had 136 losses and three ties. His .749 winning percentage is 31st all time.

7: Times Penn State made it to No. 1 in the Associated Press poll in Paterno’s career during one season. The Nittany Lions finished their season on top of the AP poll twice, in 1982 and 1986.

19: Seasons Paterno coached Penn State as a member of the Big Ten conference. Until 1993, the football program played as an independent.

805: Wins all time in Penn State’s football program, dating to 1889. Over half of those wins were earned by Paterno.

4 million: Dollars that Paterno and his wife donated back to the university. A library and spiritual center were named in his honor.

600,000: Dollars of Paterno’s annual salary.

Penn State wide receivers coach Mike McQueary, who witnessed Jerry Sandusky allegedly rape a boy in the team’s locker room in 2002, won’t coach this weekend.

Out of fear for McQueary’s safety, the coach, who somehow still has a job, will not be on the field when the embattled Nittany Lions take on Nebraska tomorrow.

The university released a statement reading, “Due to multiple threats made against assistant coach Mike McQueary, the university has decided it would be in the best interest of all for assistant coach McQueary not to be in attendance.”

Mike McQueary and Joe Paterno

McQueary has been under fire for not doing anything to stop the alleged rape, and then going to Joe Paterno, the legendary head coach, instead of the police.

Penn State fired Joe Paterno abruptly Wednesday night.

Despite the fact that he didn’t stop Sandusky, the team’s former defensive coordinator, who was just indicted on 40 counts of child sex abuse, his job is safe for now.

According to Pennsylvania’s Morning Call newspaper, the board does not plan to fire McQueary or ask him to step down. But he won’t be on the field tomorrow.

The Penn State board of trustees have reportedly asked new interim coach Tom Bradley to keep Mike McQueary from coaching from the sidelines Saturday.

As the sex scandal at the storied college football program continues to unravel, no word on whether Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter editors will weigh in on the latest.
